Violist
Sarah Darling is always ready to explore new musical terrain. After a
Bachelor's in music at Harvard and a year at the Juilliard School, she
spent four years studying in Europe (Amsterdam and Freiburg) as a
recipient of the Beebe, Paine, and DAAD grants. She has studied with
James Dunham, Karen Tuttle, Nobuko Imai, Wolfram Christ, and Kim
Kashkashian, with whom she is now completing a Graduate Diploma at the
New England Conservatory. Sarah has toured extensively in Europe as a
member of several chamber groups - in particular, the
Amaryllis-Quartett and the Sweelinck Ensemble. A passionate advocate of
new music, she has been involved in the premiere of more than 100
works, including two concertos dedicated to her and a solo sonata
played in the Kennedy Center. She has performed in the Norfolk, Yellow
Barn, Baden-Baden, Verbier, Lucerne, and
Ravinia festivals, and alongside such artists as Joel Krosnick, Peter
Frankl, Roger Tapping, Timothy Eddy, and the Ying and Borromeo
quartets. Currently based in Boston, she is the founder and director of
the Arcturus Chamber Ensemble, as well as the assistant director of the
Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra with its artistic director Phoebe
Carrai. She is also a founding member of Boston Hausmusik and the
Laurel Quartet.
